    Our Mission
Advanced Pain Centers of Alaska exists to provide the best medical care possible for the people of Alaska.

Our Vision
With the advanced training and knowledge of the latest research in treatment and technology of pain, we strive to remain on the forefront of pain management. We will continue to be leaders in our field by constantly seeking education and initiating research and studies related to pain management. We will keep growing in our specialty and expand to other specialties to encompass every possible aspect of pain management. Our growth combined with our education will allow us to make a significant impact on the treatment of pain in Alaska.

Our History
Advanced Pain Centers came about to provide previously unavailable, expert medical care and options for Alaskans in July 2000. Alaska is the home state of Dr. Larry Stinson who, with his partner Dr. Grant Roderer, wanted to bring the latest in medical expertise to his friends and family. The clinic started at Alaska Regional Hospital in a small office setting and rapidly expanded. People who had been suffering from chronic pain and other medical conditions were experiencing relief and improvement in their daily functioning. Increasing patient demand for care led to further practice expansion with additional physicians, nurse practitioners, psychologists, and other practitioners.

Eventually a new building to house the treatment "team" was built on 1917 Abbott Road in Anchorage. This currently is home to pain management physicians and an advanced nurse practitioner. Demand for more medical support and treatment, however, continued to grow in other sections of the state.

Fairbanks patients accounted for approximately 20% of the patients being treated at the Anchorage location. There was obviously a great need for advanced, sub-specialty pain management treatment in the "Golden Heart" city. In 2002 a small clinic was opened in Fairbanks in conjunction with Advanced Physical Therapy (a separate entity). Within two years the Fairbanks practice had expanded to take over the entire building in which it was housed and still needed more room to meet the patient demand. Coordination with other private-practice physicians in town led to the construction of the new, multi-specialty, Steese Medical Center at 1275 Sadler Way.

The Matanuska-Susitna area became an increasing source of referrals to the Anchorage site over the first few years of practice. Our "Matsu-Valley" patients began requesting "their own clinic" to avoid the drive. Since 2004, the Matsu-Valley Clinic site in the McKinley Building on the Palmer-Wasilla Highway has been progressively growing providing needed services to local residents.

All sites together comprise Advanced Pain Centers of Alaska dedicated to providing the best medical care possible for the people of Alaska.
